80 years of Libération

To commemorate the liberation of the city of Martigues in 1944, the city archives department, L’Ombre Folle, and the studio CREATIV LIGHT worked hand in hand to collect, document, and bring to life testimonies from that time.

This project pays a moving tribute to the fighters from the Martigues resistance networks and the surrounding villages, reviving this historic moment while highlighting, more than ever, the importance of togetherness and fraternity.

An Immersive Mapping Between Memory and Tribute

On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of the city of Martigues, CREATIV LIGHT designed and produced a unique video mapping show, combining artistic creation, remembrance, and collective commitment.

This project is the result of extensive historical research carried out in close collaboration with the City Archives of Martigues. Photographs, historical documents, written records, and audio testimonies from those who lived through this period were carefully collected, listened to, and selected to become the narrative thread of the creation.

This raw and deeply human material helped shape an authentic and moving story rooted in local history.

Through this mapping project, we aimed to pay tribute to the Martigues resistance, to civilians and fighters alike, highlighting the realities of the time, the acts of courage, and the hardships endured.

The show moves between historical evocation, emotion, and transmission, with the strong intention of bringing this collective memory to life in a vivid and sensitive way.

To give voice to the witnesses, actor Jean-Marc Zanarolli, accompanied by members of the theatre association L’Ombre Folle, lent his voice to these powerful testimonies. Their interpretation brought emotional depth and a strong human dimension to the project, reinforcing its impact on the audience.

Visually, the studio integrated numerous archival elements, creating a dialogue between past and present, between still images and motion.

The mapping thus transformed the urban space into a theatre of memory, accessible to all, where history comes alive on the façades.

This project embodies our desire to create meaningful works by combining technology, visual art, collective memory, and civic engagement. It fully reflects our approach: using video mapping as a medium for cultural transmission, allowing the stories of yesterday to resonate today.
